The Basics
Pano is a news aggregator that distills the coverage and views of 100+ media outlets in a single publication. We analyze a wide range of sources across the political spectrum, bringing you multiple perspectives on every story.
Pano was started by Sam Laber, a longtime builder of mission-driven consumer products. Alongside him is a small team of media outsiders seeking to bring back context and transparency to our news.
By subscribing, you'll support the team and unlock unlimited access to Pano News—removing the usual limit of 5 stories per month.
Pano covers 100+ major news outlets across the political spectrum. This includes left-leaning sources like CNN, MSNBC, and The Atlantic; center-leaning sources like the Associated Press, Reuters, and The Wall Street Journal; and right-leaning sources like Fox News, The Daily Wire, and National Review. We are currently focused on U.S. media, but plan to expand as resources permit.

Our Approach
Bias and reliability ratings are assigned to each news outlet using a composite of publicly available data from sources like Ad Fontes, AllSides, and Media Bias / Fact Check. These organizations regularly review and update their assessments to provide accurate, up-to-date information on the sources we consume.
Our stories are written by artificial intelligence (AI) — but not in the way you might think. We don't use AI to invent news or push an agenda. Instead, we use it to read through dozens of real articles from across the political spectrum and condense them into simple, balanced summaries. Think of it like a super-speed reader that can cross-check, compare, and synthesize information at scale. That means you get the big picture — not just one outlet's version of it.
The bar graph provides a visual snapshot of a story's media coverage. Blue represents the percentage of articles from left-leaning sources, red from right-leaning, and white from center-leaning. As a whole, it helps you quickly gauge whether coverage is skewed toward one side or balanced across the political spectrum.
To determine a story's overall lean, we analyze the bias of all media outlets that covered it. Using third-party tools like Ad Fontes, AllSides, and Media Bias/Fact Check, we classify each outlet as left-biased, right-biased, or center. A story qualifies as left-leaning when at least 50% of its sources are left-biased, no more than 30% are right-biased, and it has more left-biased sources than center sources. The same criteria apply in reverse for right-leaning stories.
We look for and process story updates every 3 hours from 6am to 10pm ET.

Independence
Yes, Pano News is entirely independent. This means that our content and media evaluations are entirely objective: no media outlet or interest group can influence them in any way. What's more, the website and newsletter don't have any advertising. The Pano News project is funded entirely by subscriptions and donations.
At the moment, we do not have any formal partnerships. At some point, we may work with like-minded independent organizations focused on media literacy and depolarization. Time will tell.
