Chemours PFAS Settlement

Chemours Co. will pay $450 million to settle federal and state claims over years-long illegal discharges of PFAS, the synthetic “forever chemicals” used in products resistant to water, grease and stains. The Justice Department says the agreement is the first comprehensive federal enforcement settlement against a PFAS manufacturer, marking a major step in efforts to hold chemical producers responsible for contamination. The Delaware-based company, spun off from DuPont, faces penalties and relief programs tied to pollution in multiple states. The settlement comes as regulators intensify scrutiny of PFAS, which persist in the environment and have been linked to health and drinking-water concerns.
