What happened

ADP said private-sector employers added about 90,000 jobs in September, beating economists’ expectations. The gain rose from a revised 36,000 jobs in August. The report suggests the U.S. labor market has stabilized after a growth scare. It lands as Federal Reserve officials focus more on stubborn inflation, which led them to raise interest rates earlier in September. ADP chief economist Nela Richardson called it a strong report after a three-month slowdown. Gains were led by education and health services, while financial activities and professional services lost jobs. Pay growth stayed solid, especially for workers who changed jobs. The Labor Department’s broader jobs report is due Friday.

Right-leaning outlets framed the ADP data as a hiring rebound that topped expectations after a slowdown. Fox Business led with the stronger-than-expected private-sector gain, using the report as the main signal of momentum. Epoch Times highlighted ADP’s view that gains were broad-based across industries, especially education and health services. Epoch Times also lingered on wage resilience for stayers and job-changers.
