What happened
The company behind Donald Trump’s $TRUMP meme coin launched a contest offering top holders dinner with Trump at Trump National Golf Club near Washington. The leaderboard is based on coin holdings during a contest window that runs through Nov. 12, appearing aimed at driving purchases. Trump previously hosted similar events for top holders in April and May 2025, drawing backlash over access and ethics. His crypto ventures have made him more than $1 billion, while watchdogs say investors have lost billions in paper value. The event page says no private meet-and-greets or gifts are allowed. The top holders get dinner invitations, while the highest-ranked get added perks. It remains unclear how much coin is needed to secure an invitation.
How each side covered it
From the left
Left-leaning outlets framed the contest as a sales push that turns coin holdings into luxury access to Trump. CNN cast it as Trump and his businesses profiting from the presidency, calling it a pay-to-play access scandal. MEDIAite centered the backlash, highlighting critics who accused Trump of openly selling access to the White House.
