What happened

Amazon scheduled its October Prime Big Deal Days as a two-day sale on Oct. 6–7, with discounts on technology, clothing and household goods. Walmart launched its competing Deals & More fall sale on Oct. 5, with discounts running through Oct. 11 on technology, appliances, clothing and kitchen goods. Amazon’s fall event is meant partly to pull holiday shopping earlier, and most offers are for Prime members. Walmart’s sale is open to all shoppers, while Walmart+ members get added benefits. Amazon had already cut some prices before the start, with one NBC roundup listing more than 63 deals. Deal roundups said selections would expand during the event.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the sales as a shopper’s-choice story, stressing alternatives, bargain hunting and skepticism over deal quality. HuffPost leaned into Walmart as an Amazon alternative, saying some offers may beat Prime Day. Rolling Stone warned that sale labels can overstate value because products are often discounted anyway.

From the right

Only one right-leaning outlet we track covered this: New York Post, under the headline “Revealing the top 150+ best-selling Amazon products shoppers keep re-purchasing”.
