What happened

SpaceX reported third-quarter revenue of about $14.6 billion, up sharply from a year earlier and above Wall Street expectations. The company earned about $4.4 billion, reversing a prior-year loss and topping profit forecasts by more than twofold. Its AI, or “Super Intelligence,” unit became its largest business, ahead of the mostly Starlink connectivity segment. The jump matters because investors had questioned whether heavy AI and infrastructure spending would pay off after recent losses. Chief executive Elon Musk said power, cooling and facilities now limit AI growth more than chips. SpaceX spent about $19.6 billion on capital projects. Committees at SpaceX and Tesla have not agreed on merger terms.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the quarter as proof that AI and satellite communications now drive SpaceX’s financial rise, while tying the story to Musk’s broader power. The Guardian emphasized the combined force of Starlink and AI, and it connected Musk’s infrastructure to geopolitical risk in Ukraine. The Los Angeles Times centered Musk’s statement that a Tesla deal could become historically large.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed SpaceX’s results as a breakout profit story, with AI overtaking Starlink while spending stayed under investor scrutiny. The New York Post leaned into the AI-led turnaround and Musk’s support for a possible Tesla combination despite his conflict limits. The Washington Times stressed worries that huge project spending could weigh on SpaceX against AI rivals.
