Police arrested a University of Michigan student after she shoved conservative Jewish influencer Liz Benichou to the ground during a campus confrontation Sunday. Bystanders intervened before the arrest. The confrontation began at a table where conservative commentators discussed Islam with passersby under signs questioning whether Islam was compatible with the West or evil. During the exchange, Benichou asked whether the student could dress that way in Iran. Benichou said she meant to raise free speech and Iran’s treatment of protesters. She said she was safe, received medical treatment, and would not be silenced. Police said the case would be sent to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
