Lionel Richie cut short the opening stop of his Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire after becoming ill on stage at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 77-year-old singer repeatedly sat down during the performance, told the crowd he felt “dizzy” and “strange,” and joked that years in the business had taught him to sit down when that happens. After an unplanned break, saxophonist Dino Soldo informed fans Richie would not be able to continue, and reports said the singer was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Video from the concert showed Richie struggling on stage, including while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” before the show ended early.
