What happened

Actor Hayden Panettiere died from an accidental overdose caused by toxic effects of fentanyl and several other drugs. She was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest at a Greenville, South Carolina, apartment on Aug. 16, and emergency responders could not revive her. Panettiere, 36, had spoken openly about addiction, postpartum depression and mental health, including in a recent memoir. Her death hit fans who knew her as a child star and later from “Heroes” and “Nashville.” Authorities said they found no signs of foul play, while her family asked for privacy. Police and federal authorities are still investigating where the drugs came from.
