What happened

Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday on domestic-violence-related charges. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on one felony battery-by-strangulation count and one misdemeanor battery count. The case stems from an alleged Aug. 28 incident at Ross’s Star Island home involving a woman police described as his girlfriend and housemate. Police said the woman described being slapped, grabbed by her hoodie and ponytail, slammed into a wall, and left with injuries. Ross’s attorneys said he is wrongfully accused, pleaded not guilty, and noted she waited a month to file a police report. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 22.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning coverage treated the case as a grave domestic-violence matter, stressing the alleged strangulation rather than celebrity spectacle. Vice connected the arrest to a wider record of legal trouble challenging Ross’s music legacy. Vice also lingered on the courtroom dynamic, casting the judge as unwilling to bend procedure for fame.

From the right

Right-leaning coverage led with the arrest itself, keeping the focus on alleged battery and strangulation charges. The Daily Caller emphasized the accuser’s account of a jealous confrontation tied to a social-media photo. The Daily Mail highlighted Ross’s attorneys, who said he was being wrongfully accused for unclear reasons.
