What happened

Shivon Zilis said her relationship with Elon Musk ended suddenly after Musk unfollowed her on X, the platform he owns. Zilis posted the breakup message there and reshared an alert noting the unfollow. Zilis and Musk have four children through IVF: twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia, and son Seldon Lycurgus. She testified earlier this year that they moved from a brief romantic encounter in 2016 to friendship, co-parenting, and later a romantic partnership. Zilis said she went “from in love to let go in a week” and hoped they could remain friends and co-parents. Her post included a private text screenshot referencing a dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping. What comes next remains unclear.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning accounts treated the split as a public platform drama, centered on follows, unfollows, and posts. The Verge tied the personal rupture to Musk’s AI business world, highlighting Zilis’s place across that portfolio. Raw Story leaned on Zilis’s own account of a fast emotional break, keeping her pain at the center. Raw Story also emphasized private Musk-world material, including texts connected to a White House dinner with Xi Jinping.
