What happened

Actor Robert Kelker-Kelly died at age 62 on October 3 at his home in St. Peters, Missouri. He was best known for playing Bo Brady on Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, after taking over the role from Peter Reckell. Lisa Rinna, who played Billie Reed opposite him on the soap opera, wrote in her memoir that he was verbally abusive, manipulative and made her life difficult on set. Kelker-Kelly did not publicly respond to those allegations. Police said he had complained of chest pain before becoming unresponsive. Officers and paramedics tried but failed to revive him. The medical examiner had not disclosed a cause of death.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed Kelker-Kelly’s death as the loss of a familiar daytime television actor, while lingering on the contrast between his soap role and alleged off-screen tensions. The Daily Beast emphasized his Bo Brady fame, then noted that his on-screen romance was not matched by his real-life working relationship with Lisa Rinna. It cited TMZ in describing a sudden medical emergency.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets led with the emergency response around Kelker-Kelly’s death, treating the episode as a failed rescue effort rather than a suspicious incident. The Daily Mail centered the desperate attempt to save the soap actor’s life, while remembering him chiefly through Days of Our Lives and his on-screen romance with Lisa Rinna.
