What happened
Bonhams is auctioning items from Stanley Kubrick’s personal archive in London on February 3. The sale is the first auction of Kubrick’s personal archive, which holds objects from the films of the influential director, who died in 1999. Kubrick’s stepdaughter, Katherina Kubrick, said the family hopes the items find new homes where film lovers will cherish them. The original “Star Child” prop from 2001: A Space Odyssey is expected to fetch up to £800,000. The axe Jack Nicholson used in The Shining is estimated at £30,000 to £50,000. Public exhibitions will precede the auction in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London.
