All States Join Trump Medicaid Model

President Trump announced that all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico will participate or have applied to participate in the Medicaid GENEROUS model for lower drug prices. Officials said drugmakers in the model will provide extra rebates or other concessions so Medicaid’s final price does not exceed the most-favored-nation benchmark. The model ties selected Medicaid drug prices to the lowest prices paid in certain other countries. Health-policy experts and advocates said savings are hard to verify because deals are mostly confidential and Medicaid already receives steep discounts. Trump said states could use savings for other health-care improvements. The administration projected more than $64 billion in Medicaid savings over 10 years. The durability of the cuts remains unclear.
