Sonny Smart, a longtime high school football coach and father of Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart, passed away at the age of 76 due to complications from hip surgery following a fall in New Orleans. Surrounded by family, he died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday. He was in New Orleans to support his son during the Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame, which was delayed due to a tragic incident in the city. The Smart family expressed gratitude for the care received by hospital staff and requested prayers for those affected by the New Year’s Day tragedy.
