Gilgo Killer Sentenced

Rex Heuermann, the former Long Island architect known as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after admitting he killed eight women in a decades-long case centered on remains found near Gilgo Beach. A New York judge imposed multiple life sentences, including three consecutive life terms for first-degree murder and additional 25-years-to-life terms on second-degree murder counts. Heuermann, 62, pleaded guilty in April to murdering seven women and admitted responsibility for an eighth killing, ending a cold case that stretched from the early 1990s into the 2010s. At the sentencing in Riverhead, victims’ relatives delivered emotional statements, confronting Heuermann over the damage caused by the murders before he said, “I am responsible.”
