The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Prince Harry, Elton John and five other claimants were ordered to pay Associated Newspapers Ltd an initial £9.54 million ($13 million) by Aug. 28 after losing their privacy case against the Daily Mail publisher. The group, which also included Liz Hurley and Doreen Lawrence, alleged unlawful information gathering and misuse of private information over activity spanning 1997 to 2015. Justice Matthew Nicklin said the claimants’ conduct justified an exceptional costs order, with the interim payment set at the upper end of expectations. Their total legal bill could rise to £34.5 million.
