What happened

Police divers recovered the body of the last missing passenger from a medical helicopter that crashed into the Pacific off Catalina Island, raising the death toll to three. The patient was 45-year-old Catalina Hernandez, who had suffered an allergic reaction and was being flown to the mainland for treatment. The helicopter had five people aboard and went down shortly after takeoff. The pilot and a nurse also died, while another medic and Hernandez’s son were hospitalized. REACH Air Medical Services said two crew members were killed and a third was recovering. A Catalina Island memorial honored the victims. Authorities said the crash remains unexplained, and the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
