What happened
Delta Flight 7’s left wingtip struck the horizontal stabilizer on Air Canada Flight 785 while the Delta plane was taxiing at Los Angeles International Airport. The Air Canada plane had arrived from Toronto and was being towed toward its gate. The Delta flight was preparing to depart for Tokyo. No injuries were reported among the 275 passengers and 15 crew members aboard the Delta flight. Delta apologized for the disruption and said customer and employee safety was its highest priority. Both aircraft were being assessed for damage. Air Canada said its plane would be taken out of service for inspection and repairs. The FAA is investigating. The NTSB said it was gathering information before deciding whether to open its own investigation.
How each side covered it
From the left
Left-leaning outlets framed the collision chiefly as an aviation-safety event for federal investigators, while stressing that the immediate harm appeared limited. CNN led with the FAA investigation and cited air-traffic-control audio saying firefighters found no problems after checking the planes.
From the right
Right-leaning outlets treated the collision as an official inquiry into a limited ground incident, with more attention to cockpit error claims. Daily Mail foregrounded the FAA’s investigation and Delta’s pledge to cooperate. The Gateway Pundit cast the event as a minor ground collision rather than a disaster. The New York Post cited Lowe blaming lost spatial awareness in the Delta cockpit.
