President Donald Trump announced the Freedom Haulers initiative on July 30, directing the Transportation Department to fast-track military veterans into commercial trucking alongside an administration effort to remove drivers it says are unauthorized immigrants or otherwise unqualified. The plan gives veterans with heavy military truck experience expedited access to commercial driver’s licensing programs, with current service members able to begin preparing for trucking careers before leaving the military. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the program is aimed at expanding veteran employment and filling trucking jobs with drivers trained in military logistics.
