The reporting
President Donald Trump, his sons and the Trump Organization filed a notice of appeal on July 31 challenging U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams’s July 13 ruling that found their $10 billion IRS lawsuit was filed for an improper purpose. Williams said the suit over leaked tax returns, voluntarily dismissed in May, appeared designed to secure a settlement with Trump’s own Justice Department and avoid court scrutiny. The blocked settlement included a $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund and personal tax-audit protections. Williams referred one Trump lawyer to bar authorities.
