The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Rep. Shri Thanedar of Michigan lost the Democratic primary in the 13th Congressional District to state Rep. Donavan McKinney, ending the two-term incumbent’s bid for renomination. McKinney, a Detroit native and Democratic Socialists of America member backed by the DSA, defeated Thanedar 51.9% to 48.1% with nearly all votes counted. The Detroit-based district covers most of the city, and McKinney’s win positions him as the Democratic nominee. His campaign drew support from progressive figures including Bernie Sanders and Rashida Tlaib.
