AGs Subpoena Anthony Fauci

The attack on Fauci is driven by lingering COVID politics, distrust of scientific authority, and a Republican effort to make him the face of pandemic grievances. Republicans are scapegoating him through a hostile, Trump-aligned retribution campaign while showing hypocrisy over use of the Fifth Amendment.

Fauci’s contempt referral is not an automatic path to prosecution; it must clear Senate procedure, Justice Department discretion, and unresolved questions about congressional contempt. The fight will test whether his repeated Fifth Amendment invocations, and possibly any presidential pardon, actually protect his refusal to answer.

Fauci and his wife reacted bitterly after the contempt vote rather than showing humility. His miserable appearance and her obscene gesture showed a contemptuous, fed-up response to public pressure.

The larger scandal is the pandemic response itself: Fauci’s diaries and security lapses point to secrecy, overreach, expert rule, and unchecked government power. America needs a serious independent reckoning with those failures so future harms can be prevented.

Fauci deserved contempt because he refused to answer pertinent questions about damaging evidence, alleged lies, and possible misconduct during the pandemic. Democrats failed to scrutinize him, and a serious look back is necessary so the Justice Department and Congress can hold him accountable.
