The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

President Donald Trump named White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf as White House counsel and assistant to the president, effective Sept. 1. Scharf will replace David Warrington, who has served in the role since Trump’s inauguration and is leaving the administration for the private sector. Scharf previously represented Trump in litigation, including his Supreme Court immunity case, and served as a federal prosecutor. He also chaired the National Capital Planning Commission, which helped secure approval for Trump’s $400 million White House ballroom project.
