The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most outlets agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

Rep. Byron Donalds won Florida’s Republican primary for governor and former Rep. David Jolly won the Democratic nomination, setting up a November race to replace term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis. Donalds, endorsed by President Donald Trump, took about 49% in an 11-candidate GOP field, with Lt. Gov. Jay Collins second at about 25%. Jolly is a former Republican congressman who ran as a Democrat and defeated five primary opponents. Florida last elected a Democratic governor in 1994.

Republican AdvantageLeft & Center

Florida’s political environment gives Republicans a strong advantage in the governor’s race. Democrats are unlikely to win back the governorship, and Byron Donalds is favored because the state now leans reliably Republican.
