Jon Kyl Dies At 84

Former Arizona Republican Sen. Jon Kyl died at age 84 from complications of a neurological disease, after announcing dementia and withdrawing from public life in December 2025. Kyl spent nearly three decades in Congress, including four House terms, about 18 years in the Senate, and a brief 2018 return to fill the late John McCain’s seat. He became Senate Republican whip, a leadership post that made him a key vote-counter and strategist. His family said he loved Arizona, cherished public and family life, and had joined his “beloved Creator, Jesus Christ.” Tributes from both parties praised his quiet discipline.
