Anthony Kazmierczak was sentenced to 14 months in prison after pleading guilty to assault for spraying Rep. Ilhan Omar with a water-and-apple-cider-vinegar mixture at a Minneapolis town hall. Omar was not injured, security officers quickly subdued him, and she continued the event after his arrest. The attack came during a major federal immigration crackdown in Minneapolis that had sparked protests, arrests, and the deaths of two U.S. citizens. In court, Kazmierczak apologized and said his memory was “fuzzy.” His lawyer said Parkinson’s disease, mental-health issues, and missed medication lowered his inhibitions. The sentence includes three years of supervised release and a no-contact order with Omar.
