Ocasio-Cortez Weighs 2028 Bid

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she will decide after the 2026 midterm elections whether to run for president in 2028. She is also spending time outside her district to help New York Democrats, including giving $300,000 from her campaign account and planning stops in Buffalo, Syracuse and Ithaca. Her future is closely watched because she has become a leading progressive Democrat since defeating longtime incumbent Joe Crowley in 2018. In a New York Times interview, she said she is weighing age, gender, ethnicity, electability and personal costs. Ocasio-Cortez also said the country has never elected a woman president.
