Celebrities Arrested At Netanyahu Protest
NYPD detained celebrities and other protesters near Netanyahu's U.N. address.
What happened
Hundreds of anti-Netanyahu protesters blocked traffic outside the United Nations in New York before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the General Assembly. Police detained or arrested about 100 people. The protest was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace and allied groups, including DSA-linked activists, amid growing international criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza and the West Bank. An International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Netanyahu remains unenforced by the United States, which is not a court member. Protesters called Netanyahu a war criminal. Netanyahu rejected genocide accusations as “the biggest lie of the century.” Dozens of delegates walked out during his speech. More legal and political fallout may follow.
