PM Netanyahu Assails UN Critics
Israel's leader used his UN address to reject genocide claims and attack his critics.
What happened
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used his U.N. General Assembly speech to defend Israel’s war in Gaza and reject accusations of genocide. More than 100 protesters were arrested outside U.N. headquarters during a rally against his appearance. The speech followed Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s video address, after the Trump administration denied his delegation visas. The administration said Palestinian leaders were undermining peace prospects, while Abbas and Palestinian officials said the denial was unlawful. Netanyahu called New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani antisemitic, and Mamdani accused Netanyahu of baseless lies. Abbas condemned Israel’s actions and urged a two-state solution. The diplomatic fallout now moves beyond the U.N.
