What happened
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito said the majority decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization required “courage” from the justices who joined it. Dobbs was the 2022 ruling Alito wrote that overturned Roe v. Wade. It ended the federal constitutional right to abortion and returned abortion policy to the states. The interview also covered criticism from Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump, which Alito said has grown more common and harsh. Alito said he lost friendships over Dobbs and other rulings. He also called threats, harassment, and bulletproof vests for justices new and dangerous. State abortion fights continue as voters weigh related measures.
