What happened

President Trump is proposing to turn part of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach into a permanent presidential retreat modeled on Camp David. Palm Beach County is seriously considering the plan, and its administrator said the county has contacted the General Services Administration to identify a site. The county owns the land beneath the golf course and leases it to the Trump Organization, so county land would be needed for federal use. Trump lawyer Harvey Oyer called it a gift to future presidents that would raise the county’s profile. A White House official cited airport access, nearby law enforcement, security features and few nearby structures. Trump would pay to build the residence, while the Trump Organization would keep operating the course. No final agreement has been announced, and the location and costs remain undetermined.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the idea as Trump putting a personal, golf-centered stamp on the presidency. HuffPost led with the attempt to turn one of his clubs into a Camp David-style retreat. MEDIAite highlighted Harvey Oyer’s pitch that the project would elevate Palm Beach County as a global destination. Raw Story emphasized the proposal as a lasting presidential legacy beyond Trump’s time in office.

Only one right-leaning outlet we track covered this: Washington Examiner, under the headline “Trump's Palm Beach golf course asks for same designation as Camp David”.
