What happened

The administration says it has automatically created Trump Accounts for about 70 million eligible U.S. children under 18 with valid Social Security numbers. Michael and Susan Dell pledged about $6.25 billion to provide $250 to 25 million children’s accounts, with deposits expected by week’s end. The accounts were created under the 2025 tax law as investment accounts meant to help children build savings, generally accessible at age 18. Trump promoted them as a path to wealth and said ownership could reduce support for socialism and communism. Parents and guardians still must claim accounts through the program’s app or website before managing them or arranging contributions.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: PBS NewsHour, under the headline “WATCH: Trump announces eligible U.S. children automatically enrolled in Trump accounts”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed Trump Accounts as a pro-capitalism savings push built around ownership and self-reliance. The Gateway Pundit emphasized the tax-advantaged structure as a head start toward adulthood. The New York Post focused on the Dells’ role while stressing that parents still must claim accounts to unlock benefits. American Thinker cast the program as a household-level bet on independence.
