What happened

Kimberly Guilfoyle allegedly asked Trump donor Eric Deters to send $100,000 to pay her American Express bill days before her Senate confirmation hearing as U.S. ambassador to Greece. Deters said Guilfoyle offered political access for the payment while he sought help with tax and legal matters. He said he had already paid her $300,000 for public appearances before she entered government service. Guilfoyle’s lawyer disputed the texts’ authenticity and suggested any money could have been expense reimbursement; Deters said he owed her nothing. Vice President JD Vance said he opposed selling access but wanted the full story. A House Oversight request seeks records by October 22.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets cast the allegations as part of a wider Trump-world access-selling culture, not an isolated dispute. Raw Story framed Guilfoyle as deeply embedded in a political, media and money system it portrayed as corrupt. MS NOW stressed possible removal, prosecution and a wider reckoning for Trump’s circle. AlterNet lingered on alleged self-awareness and sloppy conduct.
