What happened

President Donald Trump canceled his planned trip to Tuscaloosa for Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia football game. He said he would instead attend a Tennessee rally for Republican candidates Bill Hagerty and Marsha Blackburn. The game matched undefeated, nationally ranked Georgia and Alabama in a marquee Saturday night matchup. Hurricane Isaias was nearing the Gulf Coast, with landfall expected Friday night. Tuscaloosa was under a tropical-storm warning, but not in the projected eye. Trump said he skipped the game so first responders and law enforcement could focus on the storm. ESPN moved College GameDay indoors, and Alabama limited tailgating and banned tents. Despite the storm, kickoff remained set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern. Trump said he hoped to visit both teams later.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: Joe.My.God., under the headline “Trump: I’m Skipping AL Football Game Over Hurricane”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the decision through storm disruption and public safety rather than game-day spectacle. Fox News lingered on wider schedule upheaval, saying six kickoffs changed and one game was canceled. The New York Post cited Trump’s point that responders should focus on the storm. Just the News highlighted his pivot to helping Tennessee Republicans.
