The reporting

A neutral summary of the key facts most sources agree on, drawn from reporting across the political spectrum.

A federal judge ordered the Interior Department to stop cutting down trees at East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C., after preservationists said more than 500 trees were felled over the weekend. U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes also directed the government to explain who authorized the work and why it proceeded after a court order limiting tree removal. The pause remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday or until the court issues further instructions.
