What happened

Sen. Elissa Slotkin said Democrats should identify “signature cases” involving people who enabled President Trump, rather than focus only on Trump himself. Speaking at a University of Chicago event, she said prospective government employees should fear legal trouble from working for the Trump administration and avoid those jobs. The idea is part of Slotkin’s plan for Democrats if they regain Congress, alongside legislation and changes to “Trump-proof” the government. She had made a similar call in September, naming officials including Kristi Noem and Doug Burgum. Slotkin said the cases would answer what she called corruption under Trump. The midterm elections will decide whether Democrats can pursue them.

How each side covered it

From the left

Only one left-leaning outlet we track covered this: MEDIAite, under the headline “Elissa Slotkin Argues Dems Need to 'Go After' Trump Staffers”.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed Slotkin’s remarks as political intimidation and evidence that Democrats accuse rivals of authoritarianism while seeking state power against them. The New York Post said she called on Democrats to intimidate young conservatives by prosecuting presidential staffers. The Gateway Pundit cast the remarks as hypocrisy, saying, “These are the people who are calling you a fascist”.
