Rep. Ilhan Omar denied using the name Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, which appeared in a federal court filing. The filing identified Omar as that name and as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar; she said her name is Ilhan Abdullahi Omar and denied using a U.S. alias. Federal agents searched Omar’s Washington home on Oct. 12 in an immigration-records inquiry and obtained DNA. For years critics have questioned her former marriage and family history, though the cited reports do not establish her ex-husband was her brother. Asked about that relationship, Omar replied, “Not to my knowledge”; her spokesperson called the allegations baseless. Omar calls the investigation politically motivated, and no public finding has resolved the allegations.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the case as a serious fraud inquiry and stressed cultural or political signs they viewed as damning. Daily Wire argued the allegations rested on a “massive trove of evidence,” not rumor. FOX News focused on the Somali soundtrack as a defiant message toward enemies. Breitbart News tied Omar’s Hasan Piker appearance to Democratic extremism. ZeroHedge cast resurfaced allegations about Somali leaders as evidence of betrayal.
