Hasan Piker filed a defamation lawsuit against Scott Jennings in federal court in Washington, D.C., alleging that Jennings falsely portrayed him as advocating the lynching of Black Americans. Jennings publicly claimed Piker called for Black Americans to be lynched, or for lynchings to resume, while criticizing Piker’s association with Michigan candidate Abdul El-Sayed. The dispute centers on an October 2024 livestream in which Piker’s complaint says he sarcastically imitated a conservative argument about “woke DAs” and lynchings. His lawyers say Jennings used manipulated footage, ignored a retraction request, and damaged Piker’s reputation and income prospects. Piker seeks more than $72 million and a jury trial. Jennings had not commented on the lawsuit.

How the left told it

Left-leaning outlets framed the case as a false smear built from sarcastic mockery, with attention to Piker’s claim that context was stripped away. Mediaite cited Piker accusing Jennings of distorting his remarks to portray him as supporting lynching Black Americans. The Daily Beast emphasized the alleged refusal to retract the statement after Piker challenged it. Raw Story highlighted Piker’s claim that the clip was used to attack Democrats.

How the right told it

Right-leaning outlets treated the lawsuit as a high-stakes clash over whether an explosive racism accusation was deliberately fabricated. Breitbart News emphasized Piker’s allegation that edited footage and fabricated wording turned sarcastic remarks into support for racial violence. It also cast the case as a fight between a left-wing streamer and a conservative commentator over a demand for more than $72 million.
