Donald Trump insulted Reuters reporter Jacob Bogage after he asked about Trump's canceled Kansas rally. Trump had canceled a planned Saturday campaign rally in Salina, where he was expected to campaign for Republican Sen. Roger Marshall. He said he would hold a tele-rally instead and also canceled a planned Iowa rally. Marshall faces a competitive race after a CNN poll showed Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton leading him 49% to 45% in Kansas. Trump has held more than two dozen rallies before the midterms, and his voice had grown hoarse. On an airport tarmac after returning from South Carolina, Trump called Bogage sick and disgusting, criticized his fitness, and said, “You look like hell.” Trump said Marshall was doing well. The White House said Trump would take part in more than 20 telephone rallies before Election Day.

Left and right

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed Trump as turning a routine travel question into an angry personal attack, not a campaign-scheduling dispute. HuffPost lingered on the appearance insults as inviting ridicule because of Trump's own appearance and conduct. Raw Story focused on suspicion that Trump was distancing himself from a struggling Republican candidate.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets led with the attack's personal edge while treating the question as tied to a broader media fight over Trump's health. The New York Post emphasized the body-shaming nature of Trump's response. The Gateway Pundit cast the health angle as a left-wing media hoax and Trump as hitting back.
