What happened

The NFL suspended line judge Jeff Seeman for two games and referee Adrian Hill for one game for unprofessional conduct toward players in separate Week 4 incidents. League vice president of officiating Ramon George issued the discipline after the NFL reviewed both incidents, following public attention to Seeman’s exchange and scrutiny of Hill’s confrontation with Wilson. Seeman appeared to curse at Cardinals tight end Trey McBride after McBride appealed for pass interference, with no penalty called. In another game, Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon kept blocking after the whistle and pushed Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson into Hill. NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter called the conduct unacceptable. Wilson said Hill understood after he explained. Both officials were set to miss Week 5 games.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed the suspensions as a player-accountability story, with special focus on profanity during a disputed penalty appeal. CNN cited NFL Players Association executive director JC Tretter saying officials should face the same standard as players. The Guardian lingered on McBride’s protest of a non-call before Seeman’s apparent profane response.

From the right

Right-leaning outlets framed the suspensions as needed accountability, while putting more weight on Hill’s reaction after an accidental collision. Fox News cited JC Tretter’s same standard argument and stressed that Hill berated Wilson before realizing he had been pushed.
