What happened

Cleveland beat Chicago 2-0 in Game 5, completing a best-of-five AL Division Series comeback after trailing 2-0. José Ramírez hit a two-run homer off Sean Burke in the fourth inning, supplying the only runs. The White Sox had reached the playoffs after three straight 100-loss seasons, making the run an unexpected turn for the team and its fans. Burke said Ramírez made a good swing on a pitch he would not change, while manager Will Venable praised Burke for keeping Chicago in the game. Gavin Williams struck out 12, and Cleveland pitchers struck out a nine-inning postseason-record 21. Cleveland opens the AL Championship Series against Tampa Bay on Monday, seeking its first World Series appearance since 2016.
