Water System Cyberattacks

Michigan reported cyberattacks on nine water systems Saturday, joining Minnesota, where authorities said more than 30 systems had been targeted; officials said Michigan’s systems were operating safely. The FBI is investigating intrusions reported by water providers in at least seven states since July 27, with some attacks disrupting normal operations. Federal agencies warned water and wastewater utilities that hackers are targeting operational technology used to run critical infrastructure. Officials have not identified a culprit, though the attacks followed warnings that Iranian hackers were focusing on water systems.
