What happened

Apple announced HomeView, its first smart display, as a hub for controlling connected home devices and using Apple services. The product is part of Apple’s renewed push to make its home lineup more prominent and bring its upgraded Siri AI into the home. Apple has lagged in smart speakers, with 5.2% of that market in 2025, behind Amazon’s 40.9% and Google’s 29%. Apple says HomeView is built for shared household use while giving recognized users a personal experience. It says camera and microphone data are processed separately to protect privacy. The device has a 7-inch display and costs $299. Preorders opened on October 13, and Apple says it will launch on November 13.

How each side covered it

From the left

Left-leaning outlets framed HomeView as Apple’s bid to restart its smart-home plans, focusing on Siri AI rather than market share. CNN cast the device as a key way to put Apple’s revamped Siri inside consumers’ homes. The Verge lingered on the look, comparing it to a giant Apple Watch, and questioned the extra mount cost for wall use.
