A stunning sighting off the California coast revealed a super pod of more than 1,500 Risso's dolphins in Carmel Bay. Captured by Captain Evan Brodsky of Monterey Bay Whale Watch, the dolphins, typically found in smaller groups, showcased playful behavior, leaping and bow riding. Marine biologist Colleen Talty noted that this gathering likely resulted from several pods joining forces. While extraordinary, such sightings aren't unheard of in this area known for deep waters, allowing dolphins to swim closer to shore. Both observers expressed awe at the experience, which lasted long enough to capture on drone footage.
