Meta Settles with Trump for $25 Million Over Account Suspension

Meta Platforms Inc. has settled with former President Donald Trump for $25 million over his suspended accounts on Facebook and Instagram after the January 6 Capitol riot. According to reports, $22 million will fund Trump's presidential library, while the remaining $3 million will cover legal costs and compensations for plaintiffs. The settlement does not require Meta to admit any wrongdoing. Trump previously alleged that social media platforms infringed upon his First Amendment rights, and the lawsuit was part of a series of legal challenges against major tech firms post-riot. In February 2023, Meta reinstated Trump’s accounts, citing the importance of public political discourse.
