The ferry capsized in strong waves on Tuesday while traveling from Kariba town toward rural and fishing communities on the lake. Police investigations indicate the vessel was overloaded, carrying an estimated 153 people despite an authorized capacity of about 75. The accident occurred on Lake Kariba, which lies on Zimbabwe’s border with Zambia.
