What happened
Today, an Iranian commercial vessel was struck by an unknown projectile near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media said one person was killed. Four others were wounded, and it identified the dead man as Jamshid Rajabi. UKMTO said a fire broke out onboard and local authorities were helping evacuate crew. Qeshm’s governor said 10 crew members were aboard and an investigation was underway. IRNA quoted him blaming a “terrorist enemy,” without naming a perpetrator. The U.S. military had not immediately commented.
How each side covered it
From the left
Left-leaning coverage cast the strike as part of an internal Iranian power struggle and a shipping crisis. The New York Times reported that hard-line opponents of a U.S. peace deal used clandestine ship attacks in Hormuz to derail it. It said Iranian forces had opened fire on three commercial ships, while Gen. Ahmad Vahidi denied advance knowledge. MS NOW highlighted Pezeshkian’s warning that Iran “won’t surrender.”
From the right
Conservative coverage focused on the unanswered question of who hit the ship and the market risk. The Washington Examiner reported one Iranian was killed and four others wounded, and said Qeshm’s governor blamed a “terrorist enemy” without naming one. It also said Trump would not say whether the United States was behind the attack. The Epoch Times reported that oil traders expected prices to rise when markets reopened Monday.
