Jovenel Moïse Suspects Extradited

Haiti extradited eighteen suspects arrested in connection with the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse to the United States. They will face trial in Florida. The case has moved through a long, troubled Haitian court process hampered by gang violence, death threats, judge resignations and a crumbling justice system. U.S. prosecutors say more than 30 people have been indicted in a transnational plot tied to U.S.-based conspirators and the Florida security firm CTU. U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quiñones said prosecutors would follow the evidence until everyone involved is held accountable. The group reportedly includes Joseph Félix Badio and 17 Colombian former soldiers. More suspects remain in Haiti.
