What happened
Two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, arrived in Atlanta from China on Sunday for Zoo Atlanta. The bears came under a new 10-year loan agreement between the zoo and the China Wildlife Conservation Association, making Atlanta one of three U.S. zoos with giant pandas. Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the arrival during his Washington summit with President Donald Trump, calling the bears a sign of friendship between Chinese and Americans. Zoo Atlanta President and CEO Raymond B. King called it a “thrilling day” and a historic moment. The pandas flew from Chengdu on a dedicated FedEx jet with bamboo, water and treats. They now face about a month of quarantine before public viewing.
